  • 👈 Definition of disease:

During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed from the lens capsule and replaced with an artificial lens (IOL). Weeks, months, or years after surgery, the lens capsule may become cloudy, causing a person’s vision to decrease. This condition is also called a secondary cataract.

👈 Laser method:

Posterior capsulotomy is a noninvasive procedure to remove this type of lens opacification. Before the laser begins, the eye is usually dilated with eye drops. Then, a YAG laser is used to make tiny holes in the lens capsule, which causes the cloudy lens to become clear and allow light to pass through it again.
Posterior capsulotomy is a painless procedure that takes less than 15 minutes. It significantly improves visual acuity. The removal of lens opacification with the YAG laser is permanent and the procedure usually does not need to be repeated.
After the posterior capsulotomy, the patient stays in the doctor’s office for one to four hours while the pressure inside the eye is measured. After this time, the person can resume their daily activities.
