  • 👈 Definition of disease :

God Almighty has placed the position of the eyes in the human face in such a way that, while creating stunning beauty, there is the greatest possibility of utilizing the power of vision. The movements of each eye are provided by 6 muscles that can move the eye in all directions. In healthy people, the movement of both eyes in different directions has a certain order and coordination. The activity of all the muscles of both eyes is coordinated by the brain so that an image is always formed from a single object on the yellow spot (macula) of both eyes, and the optic nerve of each eye can send this image separately to the brain, and the brain combines the images of both eyes so that the person can perceive the images of both eyes at the same time and see it as a single object and have three-dimensional vision. This state of the two eyes is called “alignment”. Whenever this alignment is disturbed for any reason, deviation of the eyes occurs, in which case the visual axis of one eye, which has better vision conditions and is selected by the brain as the superior eye, is focused on the desired object and all deviation is transferred to the other eye.

👈 Surgical method:

✅ Eye muscle exercises
✅ Prism glasses
✅ Eye muscle surgery:
Squint surgery in children requires general anesthesia. In adults, surgery can be performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia. In either method, the patient must fast for 8 hours before the surgical procedure. For this reason, surgery is usually performed early in the morning. In strabismus surgery, the eye is never dislocated. During surgery, the eyelids are gently opened with a speculum. A small incision is made in the conjunctiva to access the muscles. The muscles are then relaxed, tightened, or repositioned to change their function. Most strabismus surgeries take less than one to two hours.

👈 Postoperative care:

Whether the procedure is performed under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation, the patient should be monitored after surgery. Children can return to school after two days. Adults are not allowed to drive the day of surgery and the day after and should take about a week off work. Postoperative double vision may last from a few hours to a few days or a week or more, although it rarely lasts longer than a week. During this time, the patient should be careful when doing certain activities, especially driving. Postoperative pain is minor and is usually relieved by taking painkillers such as ibuprofen (Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) and applying a cold compress. The doctor will prescribe painkillers for adults and older children. The main restriction after strabismus surgery is that swimming is prohibited for two weeks. The eye will be red for one to two weeks, especially if it is a secondary or reconstructive surgery.
