Definition of disease:
LASIK and PRK are another common method for treating refractive errors and treating astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness around the world; the most important difference between this method and LASIK is the location of the excimer laser beam on the cornea. In LASIK, the laser beam hits the new surface after peeling off the surface of the cornea and the reshaping is performed; while in LASIK, the beam hits the surface of the cornea without peeling off the cornea and only after removing the epithelium, the “covering tissue of the corneal surface.” On the other hand, LASIK is considered a modified type of PRK, however, it has fewer supporters than the PRK method.
In the PRK method or “photorefractive keratectomy”, the patient’s myopia is reduced by using excimer laser beam. Using this method, a very thin layer of the cornea, measuring a few tens of microns, is removed and the refractive error of the eye is reduced by making changes to the curvature of the cornea.
