Definition of disease:
The retina is a highly sensitive nervous tissue in the deepest part of the eye, where each person’s final vision is formed. In various eye diseases, including diabetes, bleeding may occur in the retina or vitreous, which is the jelly-like part of the eye, or the retina may become detached due to aging, intraocular surgery, trauma, and other causes, all of which require retinal surgery. The duration of the surgery varies from one to several hours, depending on the patient’s condition. In some cases, the ophthalmologist may perform other procedures at the same time, including repairing a detached retina or removing a cloudy lens (cataract).
👈 Causes of the disease:
Blood or debris from infection or inflammation that may be blocking or blurring the image from focusing on the retina is surgically removed. Damaged tissue that may be causing the retina to shift, wrinkle, or tear is removed with a vitrectomy. If the retina is not in its original place, vision is reduced. This procedure can also remove foreign objects that have become lodged in the eye due to trauma. If these objects are not removed, vision is often impaired.
👈 Symptoms of the disease:
Diabetic retinopathy, especially if there is bleeding and stretching of the retina.
✅ Some cases of retinal detachment
✅ Infection of the inner parts of the eyeball
✅ Severe eye injury
✅ Macular wrinkling (central area of the retina)
✅ Macular hole
✅ Following some complications after cataract surgery

👈 Surgical method:
It is a type of eye surgery used to treat certain disorders of the retina and vitreous. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eyeball. The vitreous is the clear, jelly-like substance that fills the middle part of the eye. In a vitrectomy, the vitreous is drained and the eye surgeon replaces it with a special solution.

👈 Postoperative care:
✅ Pain or discomfort after surgery is expected. The use of a "shield" eye protector is recommended for a short period of time after surgery. The ophthalmologist will discuss with the patient the use of eye drops and when to resume normal activities.
✅ Please note that it is very important and essential to follow the instructions recommended by the ophthalmologist after vitrectomy surgery. You should also pay attention to the ophthalmologist's recommendations on how to position your head in a specific position, as failure to do so can lead to treatment failure.
✅ Until the gas bubbles have passed, flying or traveling to high altitudes is prohibited, as rapid elevation can lead to a dangerous increase in eye pressure.
✅ In cases where silicone oil is used, it is necessary to monitor the patient regularly and at certain intervals, as the silicone oil may cause problems over time and the oil may need to be removed as soon as possible.
